In 1907, brothers Walter and Max Ostermann founded a service company which offered repairs for textile machinery in Wuppertal and was soon to develop and manufacture its own machines.

By the middle of the 1930s, the company was producing gear units, at first, based on third-party drawings and, later, following its own designs as early as 1938.

1954 saw the separation of the textile and gear construction divisions as well as the registration of the company Dr. W. Ostermann DOB-Getriebebau we know today.

In 1962, Dr. W. Ostermann DOB-Getriebebau was one of the first companies to develop a range of production gear units that were assembled following a modular principle and using standardised individual components. The same year also saw the development of another model series that was designed especially for cooling tower drives and was very well received by the market.

However, the company's production program is focused on making drives used in the steel industry ranging from roller conveyor gears suitable for a great many applications and gear sizes to drives used in cold sheet straightening machines with gear weights of up to 35.000 kg.

The company's success is rooted in its long-term personnel planning and development as well as its constant optimisation of its products and production processes. Within the framework of our strategic investment planning, we have been upgrading all areas of production gradually and specifically with new, state-of-the-art machinery. Further investments have been scheduled or already been implemented.

Combined with the structures of a medium-size company, this allows us to guarantee quality, flexibility, customer proximity, high precision and ability to meet deadlines.
